Welcome to the Industrial Liaison and Career Guidance (ILCGU) of the National Institute of Transport. The Industrial Liaison and Career Guidance (ILCG) Unit is one of the academic units of the National Institute of Transport (NIT) under the Directorate of Academic Support Services (DASS). This facilitates staff attachment, students’ Industrial Practical Training (IPT), internships, and study tours. The ILCG Unit in its daily undertakings is assisted by departmental coordinators.

About Industrial Practical Training

Industrial Practical Training (IPT) is an indispensable component of studies that compels all students pursuing their studies at the National Institute of Transport (NIT) to experience an actual working environment setting before completing their various programmes. The purpose of IPT for students is to supplement classroom training and impart to the students the right attitude and working culture so that they can become effective and productive in organizations. Therefore, IPT is usually part-time, which is related to the student's academic goals and is pre-professional. It is premeditated to give the student the opportunity for career exploration and development. Students should have the chance to learn new skills, explore career interests, and meet new social and intellectual challenges. Industrial attachment allows students to interact, learn and receive first-hand experience in diverse settings as they undergo the attachment experience from the industry, business and community.

The attachment can be done in any organization of a choice and accepted by the Institute based on the area of specialization including colleges, societies, volunteer organizations, government departments, private organizations and religious institutions among others. The ILCGU was established to ensure that stakeholders, where students and staff can be attached, are obtained, there exists a beneficial and sustainable relationship between the Institute and its stakeholders and to ensure effective coordination of all other issues related to field attachment placement and supervision.
